1) Brakes – One obvious and essential motorcycle component is the brake. Any bike uses type brake types. They are:
a. Drum
b. Disc
Disc brakes are used for bigger bikes and are mostly applicable for slippery roads. A bike contains two brake fluid reservoirs. One is available at the front and one is available at the backside. Both reservoirs should be checked regularly, to ensure safety for your ride. Also, it is essential to check that your brake pads do not wear out thin very soon. Having thin pads damages the brake disc and this will end up the bike in an auto repair shop.
2) Bike Chains – Bike chain is also an essential motorcycle component and they should not be left very tight. For a safe ride and longevity, it is ideal to leave an inch or so between the two sprockets. Bike chain maintenance is essential to preserve the bike and to keep the bike clean. This maintenance is very important. Hence, a bike owner should lubricate the bike chains regularly and ensure that it is done each time the bike is taken to fill up for gas.
3) Tires – Most of the motorcycle break down is due to tire pressure. Tire maintenance is essential because if they are not maintained well, the bike riding might end up with flat tires. The bike owner will end up fixing it or taking the bike to an auto repair shop. When tires are under-inflated, it tends to emit more heat, which wears them out more rapidly and leads to a blowout. When the tread goes down to 1 to 2 mm, it indicates that it is time for tire replacement.
4) Oil – Regular oil maintenance ensures keeping a bike in proper working condition. A bike’s life on many parts can be extended on regularly changing oil and filter. This also helps to extend the bike life as well. When the oil level is under-filled, it leads to a disaster which means that the oil level should be kept at a high level. However, it is also essential to note that oil can also fill the air cleaner when the oil tank is overfilled. So, conduct oil checks regularly, when the bike is not in use for long and when the oil is cool. Also, the oil filter must be replaced every time the oil changes. Ensure that the bike’s fork oil is changed once every 12000 kilometers.
5) Battery – In a bike, batteries need not be checked regularly like other bike parts. It can be checked about once a month. However, it is often neglected because of its inconvenient positioning. Each battery chamber’s fluid level should be checked when the check is made and it has to be filled in case it is less. Also, it has to be noted that only deionized or distilled water has to be used as tap water is contaminated with minerals that harm the battery and stop its functioning.
6) Clutch – Clutch is also an essential motorcycle part. A biker should be able to adjust the clutch rightly as and when required. It should be able to move freely. Ensure that the clutch is not tightened too much. When the clutch is over-tightened, it may slip without notice. Also, this causes an increase in fuel consumption. Ensure that the clutch is adjusted rightly.
